Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about FreshDump powder alerts.

What is FreshDump?

FreshDump is a free powder alert service that sends you notifications when your favorite ski resorts in Western Canada receive fresh snow. We monitor 17+ resorts across BC and Alberta and alert you at 6am (local time) when snowfall exceeds your personal threshold.

Which ski resorts do you track?

We track major resorts across British Columbia and Alberta including Whistler Blackcomb, Big White, Revelstoke, Sun Peaks, Lake Louise, Banff Sunshine, Kicking Horse, Fernie, and many more. Check the Resort Leaderboard on the signup page to see all tracked resorts and current conditions.

How do I sign up for powder alerts?

Visit our signup page, sign up with email or Google, choose your favorite resorts, and set your snowfall thresholds. No password needed - quick and secure. Existing phone-based accounts can be migrated via "Already have an account?"

What snowfall threshold should I set?

The default is 4cm, which catches most skiable powder days. Hardcore powder hounds might set 10-15cm to only get alerts for epic dumps. Casual skiers might prefer 2-3cm to catch any fresh snow.

When do alerts get sent?

Alerts are sent at 6am local time for each resort, giving you time to plan your powder day. We check snowfall throughout the night and queue alerts, so you wake up knowing exactly where it dumped.

What's the difference between 12-hour and 24-hour alerts?

The 12-hour alert tells you about very recent snowfall (overnight). The 24-hour alert captures the full day's accumulation. You can set different thresholds for each - for example, 5cm for 12hr and 10cm for 24hr.

Is FreshDump free?

Yes! Push notifications are completely free. We offer optional SMS alerts for users who prefer text messages, but push notifications work great and cost nothing.

How accurate is your snowfall data?

We scrape official snow reports directly from each resort's website every 15 minutes. Our data is as accurate as what the resorts publish themselves.

Can I track multiple resorts?

Absolutely! You can enable alerts for as many resorts as you want. Each resort can have its own threshold settings too.

How do I unsubscribe?

Log in and manage your alerts from the dashboard - disable alerts for specific resorts or unsubscribe entirely. SMS users can also reply STOP to any text message.

Do you have a mobile app?

FreshDump works as a Progressive Web App (PWA). On iPhone, visit our site in Safari and tap "Add to Home Screen". On Android, tap the install prompt. This gives you an app-like experience with push notifications.

Why didn't I get an alert when it snowed?

Check that: 1) The snowfall exceeded your threshold, 2) You have notifications enabled for that resort, 3) Push notifications are allowed in your browser/device settings. Also note we only send one alert per threshold type per day.
